Okay, this was THE year for Mike! Back in October, we were in Virginia with Pastor MacAvoy (the man in the glasses here in this first pic). Mike started talking with him about running as a hobby, etc., and Mike got the itch to run a marathon. He went out with Pastor and bought his first pair of REAL running shoes...no Nike's for this one...and started training October 31st. Thus began 18 weeks of running every day...short runs, long runs, carbohydrates, shot-blocks, gatorades, running gear...and the rest is now history (other than the fact that he is now training for his second one!!)
He and Mark decided to train together and run the marathon in Washington, D.C., on March 29. He convinced Ron DeGarde to run with them. All three - and Pastor MacAvoy - did a great job. It was such a fun day! I am so proud of him for doing this. It is an amazing discipline.
